Laying on the Fig Tree

Laying on the Fig Tree
Perfectly situated in a natural bend of the Talek River, Fig Tree Camp is a budget-friendly accommodation for your bush country travel to the eastern sector of the Masai Mara Reserve. The riverine location gives you a sense of isolation, as well as quick and convenient access to the core reserve via a walkway bridge to access the other side of the river. Your safari holiday experience is enhanced by the warmth and friendliness of the staff. Your wilderness escape tour in magical Kenya begins with a relaxing stroll to one of the 80 guest rooms. For your adventurous AfricanMecca safari, choose from thirty-eight safari tents overlooking the river, thirty-two garden chalets and ten larger Superior Ngamboli tents on the banks of the Talek River. Each room features a private deck balcony with views of the river or gardens and comfortable safari chairs and a small table. Inside are comfy beds, hanging bedside nightstands, all of which are tastefully decorated with brown and red tones. The en-suite tiled bathroom features flush toilet, shower and single-sink vanity in a contemporary design.

The Superior Ngamboli tents are situated in a private section of the camp and offer expansive views over the reserve and river. Because the camp is quite remote, power is available only during certain hours by generator. Most guests, though, find the hours of electricity fitting to their needs. We also advise our guests to keep their tents zippered because curious monkeys often steal items from unattended tents.
The mornings are a special time during your wilderness vacation in Masai Mara Game Reserve. The sun slowly rises, birds sing and terrestrial animals slowly emerge from their favorite nighttime resting spots.
A lovely cup of tea or coffee invigorates your senses and prepares you for a thrilling adventure that awaits you!  Join your AfricanMecca guide for an early morning game drive, and see many of the animals you desire the most!  If your nature-loving trip to Africa’s Fig Tree Camp occurs from July to October, you will see hordes of the wildebeests and zebras of the Great Mara Migration. The custom built safari vehicles are specially-designed to traverse the vast landscape, and your guide know from experience exactly where the wildlife are located. The morning is filled with anticipation, excitement, intrigue and many other emotions, leaving you physically and emotionally spent. Return to camp for a good variety of morning hot dishes.

A rejuvenating nap restores your energy just in time for lunch, after which you may lounge by the pool, take a game walk or listen to a lecture by a local naturalist. Return to the Mara plains for an afternoon game drive followed by sundowners and dinner. Alternative activities can be pre-arranged, including a hot air balloon safari or Maasai village cultural tour.
